Frequently Asked Questions

What happened to the National Federation of Nonprofits?

What happened to the DMA Nonprofit Council?
The National Federation of Nonprofits and the Direct Marketing Association’s nonprofit council merged on July 1, 2000 to become the DMA Nonprofit Federation. The federation is a 501(c)6 organization and the only member segment of the DMA with dedicated full time professional staff.

How can I get a list of DMA Nonprofit Federation members?
The federation does not supply or sell lists of its members, however we suggest contacting Statlistics:

Don Riccio - d.riccio@statlistics.com
Statlistics
69 Kenosia Avenue
Danbury, CT 06810
Phone: 203-778-8700

How do I participate in the federation if I am not a nonprofit organization?
For profit entities may participate in the DMA Nonprofit Federation by becoming a Corporate Member. More information about Corporate Membership is available on the Membership page.

How do I start a nonprofit organization or charity?
The Nonprofit Federation does not assist in creation of nonprofit organizations. The NPF staff recommends Anthony Mancuso's How to Form a Nonprofit Corporation (National Edition), available through Amazon.com.

How do I know if my nonprofit or charity qualifies for nonprofit postage rates?
Many nonprofit organizations qualify for special postage rates, which they use to send bulk mailings to members to members and prospective donors. But Nonprofit Standard A (formerly called Third Class) rates carry numerous restrictions on the contents of the mail.

Members of the federation may contact the office for individual assistance with questions about eligibility, appeals, and related subjects.
