Celebrate Advertising Week 2008 at DMA s Sept. 22 'Direct + Digital' Marketing Forum
Advertising Week is North America's largest and most prestigious annual gathering of industry decision-makers. Now in its fifth year, it is a hybrid of cutting-edge thought leadership programming and unique special events. On Monday afternoon, Sept. 22 in New York City, DMA will host an event like none other — a dynamic and engaging presentation entitled "What Business Needs Now: What You Need to Know About Direct + Digital = Exponential Growth."

DMA Names Senny Boone New Senior VP of Corporate & Social Responsibility; Current SVP Pat Kachura to Retire at Year's End
DMA President & CEO John A. Greco, Jr. has announced the appointment of Senny Boone, VP, special counsel and executive director of the DMA Nonprofit Federation, to the role of senior VP, corporate and social responsibility. Boone will replace Pat Kachura, who announced her plans to retire at the end of the year after 13 years of distinguished service to the DMA.

DMA to Host Sept. 11 Virtual Conference on 'Move Update & Standard Mail'
On Nov. 23, the US Postal Service's Move Update standards will expand from First-Class Mail automation and presort-price mailings to include all Standard Mail mailings. To assist mailers prepare for the change, DMA will host a virtual seminar on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. (EDT).

DMEF Announces Partnership with Elsevier, Starting a New Chapter in the Life of the Journal of Interactive Marketing
The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) announced a new publishing partnership for the Journal of Interactive Marketing® (JIM). Effective Jan. 1, 2009, Elsevier will be publisher of the JIM, making the latest research available both in print and online. The JIM is regarded as the leading peer-reviewed, academic research journal in the areas of direct, interactive, database, and Internet marketing.

DMA Politically Direct (Summer 2008): Internet Alliance Supports Laws Cracking Down on Sex Offenders Online
A dangerous trend in Internet regulation emerged in the states this year. Seven states introduced bills that would require interactive Web services to verify the identity, location, and age of each user. The bills would also require that parental consent be obtained for minors.

DMA Responds to FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule Amendments Regarding Prerecorded Calls
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced two amendments to the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR). One will expressly bar telemarketing calls that deliver prerecorded messages, unless a consumer previously has agreed to accept such calls from the seller. The other related technical amendment modifies the TSR's method of calculating the maximum permissible level of "call abandonment."

UPU Selects Non-Private Sector Reps to Consultative Committee; DMA's Prescott Re-Elected Chair
On Aug. 12, the closing day of the Universal Postal Union's (UPU) 24th Universal Postal Congress in Geneva, Switzerland, the UPU's Council of Administration (CA) and Postal Operations Council (POC) selected their representatives to the private-sector representative group called the Consultative Committee (CC). In turn, CC members re-elected by acclamation Charles Prescott of the US as chair. Prescott, who is DMA's VP of global development. The CC elected as vice chair the UK's Murray Buchanan of the Royal Mail.

2008 DMA Hall of Fame Winners Announced: Jan Brandt, Andi Emerson, W. Howard Lester, Charles Williams
The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has announced its 2008 Hall of Fame inductees: Jan Brandt, vice chair emeritus, AOL and member, Pilot Group; the late Andi Emerson, founder, president, and board chair, John Caples International Awards; W. Howard Lester, chairman of the board and CEO, Williams-Sonoma; and Charles Williams, founder and director emeritus, Williams-Sonoma.

DMA Extends Deadline for 'Marketer of the Year' Nominations to Aug. 14
DMA has extended the deadline for nominations of an individual, company, or nonprofit organization for its 2008 Marketer of the Year Award. The new deadline for nominations is Thursday, Aug. 14. The winner will be honored Oct. 14 during DMA08 in Las Vegas.

Email Experience Council Launches Email Marketing Program for Women's Bean Project
eec, DMA's email marketing arm, announced that it has helped the Women’s Bean Project, a Denver-based nonprofit, successfully design, create, and launch a new email marketing program from scratch. The effort, which began last summer, was part of the eec’s annual E-ality Focus project.
